"On foot, the pulse of Africa comes through the soles of your feet. The continent has a voice, and one is obliged to listen...
You are an animal among other animals, walking wary of the shadowed places, alert to the sudden quiet in the air.."
The Tree Where Man Was Born, Peter Mathiessen, 1972"
Micato Guide and Driver: Nuru Mbise and Wilson
Accommodation:
Bateleur Camp
- The most remote and rustic of the places we stayed. They recognized our anniversary with champagne.
Game Drives:
Saw four of the Big 5: Elephants, lions, a leopard, and cape buffalos. No rhinoceros at this point on the safari.
Other spectacular animals we found: giraffes, cheetahs, warthogs (pumbas), zebra, wildebeest, Thompson gazelles, jackals, ostrich, crowned cranes... and more!
Saw babies!!! Lion cubs, baby elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, cranes, gazelles, impalas... (wait until the Serengeti!)
Noteworthy:
We were greeted at Bateleur Camp by staff singing and dancing.
We had a spectular balloon ride early on June 9th followed by a champagne breakfast.
Warthogs joined us for lunch one afternoon at the camp.
We were served outstanding multi-course meals by Michelin-trained chefs with beautiful presentation.
We were surprised with a sunset celebration with sundowner cocktails by a river and a Maasai performance.
One morning after a game drive, we returned to a scented, hot bubble bath for two. :)
Due to prior flight cancellations, we only stayed two days at this location and our schedule was compressed. :(
Bush flights to and from Maasai Mara with takeoffs/landings on dirt roads. Flew from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip.
